There are no enough words to allow me to express my gratitude to Arun at The Swan Song for allowing me to purchase a sample of a legendary whisky that will be forever engrained in my mind. As a fitting end to an amazing night at a time of change in my life, having an iconic whisky to segment the transition is more than fitting. The "gamble" with these bottles is that you can never be 100% sure on whether you are ending with something amazing and life changing and I am more than grateful that this has more than met my expectation. Bottled in 12 September 1974 at 47.1% and distilled in 1955, this legend has the most amazing nose I have ever experienced in a whisky.
Initial Nose: Lemon gummies, syrup, red candies, grape, herbal jelly, guava, chrysanthemum tea, loads of jellies, grapefruit, fruit juice
Nosing after time: juiciness remains, every so slight ginger, extremely soft smoke that is almost unnoticeable, unripe mangoes, green mangoes, grapefruit comes out a bit more, cream. Hint of brazilian nuts. The intensity seems to never fade
Palate: Grapefruit, lemon rind, juicy, candied jellies, the most unobtrusive unaggressive whisp of peat, slight ginger. Fruits and fruits.
Finish: Fruit comes through with hint of roots, pomelo
Once again thank you Arun for such an amazing experience that I will never forget. For a whisky student I count this as one of the life essential lessons that I am blessed enough to go through.
